The Tiny Dipper

I have to admit that I was pretty amazed last week at the feedback I received on Broken Smiles. Thank you to everyone who shared it with their family and friends, with their social media outlets, or contacted me to let me know how much you enjoyed the story. Super thank you to those of you who did all of the above!

This week, I thought I might step it down for a moment to go from something scary to another kid’s story.  Especially since I’m hoping to have another intense story next week.

My dad and I use to spend a lot of time out walking with the dogs on summer nights. We’d stand in the driveway and he’d point out the constellations. When I go back “home,” I like to stand in the driveway with my kids and point the stars out to them. There are so many more stars to see when we are in Nevada compared to here in Idaho.

Another thing I remember vividly is all the time I spent out back while my mom barbecued. I can still remember the smell of her chicken cooking over the charcoal as she brushed on her special sauce. Okay, it wasn’t anything “special,” just butter, salt, pepper, and paprika, but it always made my mouth water. There was just something about the way she made it. When I was really young, I remember dancing around to the radio, loving it when they played Hotel California or Another One Bites the Dust (gee, that makes me feel old).

This story was born from those experiences.

The Tiny Dipper is a children’s story. Available for 1 week only! Then, it will turn back into a pumpkin and a new story will appear.
