Onesong – Chapter 6

I want to thank those of you who have shared with me about how much you are enjoying the story. Your feedback means a lot to me. When you are sharing your excitement over the story with me, it infects me with your enthusiasm too. Thank you.

I’ve also been getting questions about how this fits into the Sacred Knight story. It seems I have some people who are reluctant to start Sacred Knight until they’ve read all of Onesong. Trust me, you are fine to start reading Sacred Knight. You won’t have any spoilers for Onesong, I promise. Frankly, if you are concerned about spoilers, you probably should stop reading Onesong now and wait for me to finish the Sacred Knight series before reading Onesong. There is a HUGE reveal in Onesong that has gone completely unseen by my Sacred Knight series readers. I know, I’ve asked many of them because I wanted to know if I’d tipped my hand somewhere and unknowingly revealed my secrets.

Oh, don’t let it scare you off. I personally think it will only make the story more dramatic if the reader knows certain things that the main character (Steigan) doesn’t. Which is why I’m putting this story out here every week. Of course, I’m not sure if we’ll get to that part of the book, so the whole point might be moot anyway.

Just so you are aware, Onesong takes place approximately 2,000 years before Sacred Knight. You start to see inklings of how the two stories blend in the fourth Sacred Knight story (Prince of the Ruined Land, which is coming soon as I’ve been told by my first reader that she has finished reading it and that there are no structural problems – yippee! That doesn’t mean I don’t have some things I want to do and clear up that I’ve been thinking about). In the fifth Sacred Knight book which I am currently writing, then the two stories will blend together. Part of my wanting to write Onesong now was so that I could get the event lined out how I need them to be. Same reasons I had to wait until I’d written most of To Birth a Destiny before I released Manifest the Magic, and that I had to write History of a Dead Man before I finished The Three Books; I had to make sure my path matched up with my map. When you’re writing into the dark like I do (that means, writing without an outline or usually even about the next step in the story) sometimes these side adventures help flesh things out. It’s part of the reason why I’m writing extra stories featuring Moonhunter as well as the other Wells of the Onesong stories before I finish up Dragons of Wellsdeep. I want to have as much knowledge about the world my characters live in before I button things down in the novel. It’s a way of setting and testing the ground rules so that my mind can go to work on how to bend them or break them logically. It’s all a mind game and it’s one I play with myself first before releasing it upon the world.

Best job in the world!

Onto Onesong, shall we?
