Progress – August 28, 2017

Changing this up a bit. I thought I’d start by talking about my week first, then show the word counts at the end. Giving it a try. Let me know if you love it or hate it.

I had the week off from work, but I was busy running around so I didn’t get as much accomplished as I would have hoped. I didn’t even hit my word count for the week though I had been hoping to.

Of course, last Monday we had the eclipse. That was fun to watch. My son and I played video games out in the back yard in-between viewing the sun. Afterwards, I got some writing and painting done.

Tuesday and Wednesday I spent preparing for my trip to Nevada for my Dad’s “Come for Coffee” service.  I spent as much time as I could writing and painting on those days too. Also got some audio recorded. I was trying to get all the individual character voices recorded for the dialogue throughout The Three Books. Didn’t quite finish with the major characters.

Thursday early morning I finished recording the major characters in The Three Books. All I have remaining are a few lines for some minor characters. Then I can get back to the narration for the whole book. Trying something new there too. Up until now, I recorded one chapter at a time with narration on one track and each character on another track. But I notice changes in my voice when I do different days, subtle things, but I notice it. So, I thought I’d try to do the voice for one character for the whole book and see what happens then. Okay, yes, it takes me awhile to catch a clue, but I swear that I do eventually do that.

Then, Thursday later in the morning, I finished all I had to do and began driving with the boys to Nevada. About 10 miles north of Wells, there was a fatal accident. We spend three hours sitting on the highway (literally at one point) waiting for them to clear the scene. My heart goes out to the family that has lost their loved one. We debated about going back to Jackpot for lunch, but decided to wait it out in line. I met some interesting people and got to do some people watching. I also spent a little time wandering a short distance into the desert and practicing my tracking skills. Steigan would be so proud of me.  I sat in the shade of the car for a bit and tried to get some editing done. Unfortunately, by that time the heat was giving me a migraine and made me feel a bit sick for a while. It made for a really long drive, but we were safe so I am thankful.

Friday I spend running around my hometown taking care of things, cleaning up around my dad’s house, and visiting with my aunt and uncle who came for the service. We all took a long walk out to the slough to spread some of my father’s ashes out there so he can forever be with the dogs he has buried out there. I didn’t get any writing done.

Saturday was the memorial. Afterwards we did some more work and then went out to the cemeteries to clean up the graves my father has tended over the years on Memorial Day. He had mentioned to me and my brother that he hadn’t gotten as much done this year as he normally did because of the heat. Afterwards, my brother’s wife dished us up some dessert to cool us down: banana splits all around except for me because I can’t handle raw bananas any  more. I enjoyed the ice cream though. With 2 cherries on top! (grin). I didn’t get any writing done.

Sunday was spent driving home. My son drove most of the way, so I worked on the story I had been editing. Nearly done with the story now. It was a weird story that when I wrote it had about three different divisions in it because of how I would put the story down for a bit and get back to it after a week or two. I wouldn’t always remember the story how I thought I’d written it, which is a strange thing for me because generally I do, so I already had to rearrange and do patchwork on the story. I’m reading the whole story through now rather than jumping around so much in it so that I can make sure I have it all smoothed out. So far, I’m impressed with the flow considering how disjointed it was before.

I’m ready for the next few weeks to come. I have some shows coming up, including Salt Lake Comic Con and Snake River Comic Con. I hope to have Prince of the Ruined Land back soon – technical difficulties on that one, but nothing to do with the story. I plan on having a pre-order date for it soon. I think the title for the next Loki novella is going to be Mischief on Wheels. Yes, it is a good life.

Fiction words written last week: 5,184 words

Blogs/Newsletter articles/non-fiction written:  1,465 words

Writing month to date total: 28,756 words

Writing year to date total: 255,185 words – I have now beat last year’s word goal. This next week I will surpass last year’s final word count.

Drawing/painting last week: I started several pieces and continued working on the ones I began last week. I did finish one painting that I pulled from the pile of paintings I had started many years ago and worked on another one from the same pile. I spent about 3 hours painting.

Audio: I spent 4 hours recording audio. I will get back to work on editing Stardust’s audio next week.

That’s all for now!
