While I was at FanX, I had someone (Cody) ask if I could say a few words for a podcast for creative entrepreneurs. I laughed as I asked him if he’d read my blog; why sure, I can say a few words! I’ve been cheerleading the creative entrepreneur for years.
Then, of course, the instant fear set in. What would I say? I’m a writer, not a speaker.
It took me a good moment to settle down and get my act together. Then, as Cody and I talked, I was fine as long as I kept my eyes focused on his face. If I looked toward the phone he held to record us, well, things didn’t feel too good.
Then, it was done. Probably in the same amount of time it’s taken you to read this far in the blog. See, no worries.
Then came the wait.
I’ve had lots of people say that they want to have me on a podcast they are doing. They take my card and promise to get back in touch with me. ***Crickets***
So even though Cody and I had done the recording on the spot, I didn’t know if it would ever come to anything or not. It’s not like you can check out someone who says they have a podcast right away on the spot without appearing rude. I wanted to shout out that I had just been interviewed for a podcast, but I refrained. I quietly texted my son and let it go at that — it was enough to wipe away the whipped cream layer of excitement and get me focused again.
Wednesday morning comes and I open Twitter to discover that someone has mentioned my name. What’s this?
Podcast? What?
Oh my swirls! It’s the podcast!!!!
It’s real!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy podcast, Batman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I jumped over to listen to it. Not only was I there, but I was first. I felt like a headlining celebrity.
I don’t know if that was intentional or just the way it fell, but I thought it was groovy awesome. It gave me a little cloud to float on all day.
If you’ve read my Rockin’ Life comic, then you know what it’s all about. I was ROCKIN’!!!!
I certainly invite you to go listen to the Create Loud podcast episode and, when you like what you hear, to subscribe. I was so glad to be part of this. And, I did subscribe and I plan on listening to more episodes. Hey, I’m a creative entrepreneur who needs to be inspired too. (grin)
I wish Cody and Rachel all the best; may they have a thousand more episodes!
I also received word that the audiobook for I’m with Cupid is fully distributed now. This means that it should be filtering out to all audiobook distributors and several library systems.
I have never known the path before me. I jump in and start swimming around in the waters. Believe me, if there is something you want to do: write, paint, dance, play guitar, sew, cook, draw a comic, knit, etc., just start. Figure out what it is that you don’t know and need to. Then go learn it. That’s how improvement happens.
There was one line in the podcast that an artist said and I took to heart: Every drawing you do today is one more than you had yesterday.
I even made a little sign out of it. (grin – see, I need my motivation too!)
Don’t die with your music still in you.
